Squirrels 5, Me 1
It’s a great thrill to see wildlife in the garden but some visitors can be very aggravating. Squirrels for example! I swear this little gang sits in the trees, in the wood across the way, waiting for me to put out food for the birds. Don’t get me wrong I like watching them it’s just that they eat all the best food and gnaw through my bird feeders. Meanwhile, all the birds sit at a respectful distance, waiting their turn. I took this photo through the conservatory window. There are actually five squirrels but two were lurking in the bushes. Can you see the other three?

Well I’ve now bought new feeders and hung them from a long line across the garden. Each one hangs under one of those anti squirrel perspex domes. One is left unprotected and that’s for the squirrels to use. Let’s see what happens next. I imagine they’re already in a huddle sketching out a new plan of attack. Then I think – hang on – their brains must be the size of a walnut, surely I must prevail eventually. Mind you there’s only one of me.

I don’t suppose it’s possible to buy seeds that squirrels don’t like to eat? :)
I gave up on the squirrels – they now have their own feeder – a little box with a lift up lid – away from the bird feeders. If you can’t beat them … feed them!
Unfortunately they don’t seem to want to share so I may need more than one squirrel feeder. I think I’ll try your idea – as you say away from the other feeders. I’ll send for a sack of peanuts now :-)
