The Eucalyptus is flowering
Our Eucalyptus parvifolia (Small leaved Gum) is flowering at the moment. The tree looks as if it’s covered with little balls of cotton wool. We had one of these trees ages ago and a couple of years after we planted it strong winds knocked it over. Ten years ago we planted a replacement and it took off like a rocket - it’s over 25 feet tall now (8 metres). The greeny grey foliage is very attractive and the bark which peels off each spring is a focal point over the winter.
Piling up the bark in odd corners of the garden creates a handy sanctuary for wildlife. The Digger kindly took this photo as his camera has a better zoom. The flowers are now too high to reach easily, despite me jumping up and down with my camera - talk about camera shake!

This is a beautiful Eucalyptus. I have a few (not this one )in my garden. I love them. Last year when I was travelling in Portugal I saw many Eucalyptus plantations probably for woodchip)! The bark is so beautiful when it peels off. There are so many different ones to plant. I had a few broken by strong wind.
Eucalyptous is easy word for my bad english…
(ok! it’s greek word meaning “well covered” :P)
Beautiful high tree, we have Eucalyptus in south. They came in Europe from Australia and the first tree in Greece planted in Athens at 1864.
Trudi - I’d grow more if I had the space, it’s a pity not more are hardy here. I gather there are some with red flowers.
CityGarden - I think they would look great in Greece - very appropriate for many areas. I wonder what “well covered” refers to? Must look that up.
