Brrrr…It’s chilly, but some plants keep clinging on to life

We had a frost last night and a very light shower of snow which disappeared before I got up.  I’ve already posted about my Clematis ‘Sherriffii’ and Chimonanthus praecox (Wintersweet) which are still going strong. Surprisingly some other flowers are still hanging on to the bitter end. I’m sure another heavy frost will see many of them off but in the meantime they are adding a little colour to the autumn foliage.

Flowering in my north facing front garden is Fuchsia denticulata. It eventually dies back and reappears the following year. At the moment it’s a joy to see and I love the colours.

Here are a few more hardy souls flowering today.

Finally this Quince is having a second flush. It last flowered in April. It must be as confused as I am about the erratic gardening seasons.

You still have so much colour in the garden. I adore the Salvia microphylla ‘Pink Blush’ – what a great pink.
Your Fuchsia denticulata is also looking good.
Nice to see what is still looking good for you.

It may be chilly but your garden is still blooming like crazy!

How beautiful and vulnerable with their soft petals and still they stand up to the cold and powdering of snow. The good thing is when they are getting to cold and start to shiver they pack up and go to sleep and next spring wake up to give you pleasure again. I love the blue Geranium and Salvias, more the tropical types which grow here but most of the Salvias stand up to some frostbite.

So glad your flowers are still hanging on for you. I think quite a few have mine have succumbed to last night’s frost. -4′s a bit much for Dahlias and Fuchsias!

That astrantia is gorgeous, I must add that to my wish list. All this talk of frost has me realizing winter is on the way, and I still don’t have a greenhouse. I need to get my act together.
