Squirrel or criminal mastermind?

That damn squirrel has beaten me again.

Flashback:

Squirrel: “Hey look at that. She’s wired and barred it from all angles. I’ll have a quick look on the roof. Nope, there isn’t a chimney I can climb down. Hmmmm…. This calls for some creative thought”.

Squirrel: “How about I avoid all the protection, climb up the pole and chew my way into one of those little food containers from underneath. There we go - easy peasy - another success for squirrel kind.”

Those pesky squirrels can be pretty smart-and DESTRUCTIVE! Urgh! Good to have a sense of humor. Too cute.

Hugh has some very good squirrel traps in River Cottage and then he turned them into a tasty looking pasta sauce. This this squirrel might be asking for the same treatment…

I’m picturing the Mission Impossible soundtrack playing as the squirrel sneaks up on the feeder with a little saw.

This may not work, but have you tried feeding the squirrels something of their own that’s easier to get to that could keep them occupied? Or are they an insatiable bunch?

OH the evil, evil genius of squirrels! The evidence is here in photos ( but those of us missing tulip and crocus bulbs have known for years that behind that cute little face and perky demeanor is our nemesis that puts The Joker to shame….)

Thanks all for your sympathy! I do like squirrels but I seem drawn into battle by some invisible force I can’t resist. It’s their sheer cheek and persistence. I know they are laughing behind my back but I can’t stop myself.
Perhaps the squirrel’s assessment of me is right :-)

I think I’ve just seen the bird’s tables’ Fort Knox. I adore your attitude! Next time, make sure to give his get away car a flat tyre…:-)
