The squirrels are not to be trusted. Don't take your eyes off the feeders for a moment. Here the squirrels dig up any disturbed soil, which means all fall planted containers, newly planted bulbs and perennials and veggie seeds. Chickenwire over the soil, rocks around the plants and squirrel proof only bird feeders are our armaments. The war is not over!

Those pesky squirrels are greedy. They have been taking my pecans from the tree and leaving very little for me to harvest. It's a good thing I started harvesting them earlier this year. I hope your new feeding table keeps them off the feeders. :)

Linda - Luckily I don't have much trouble with them digging up the garden - well not up to now!

Daphne - I've heard about the chilli idea and might give it a try.

Karen - Yes they will, but as they are both gluttons they can fight over it. Unfortunately I need an open table otherwise I won't get Jays visiting.

Northern Shade - Separate tables, that would be the slippery slope to madness!

VP - Yikes. Not had them in the roof - that would be a step too far in the struggle for power!

The truce is broken and it's all out war here! At this very moment we have men redoing the fascias so the squirrels don't take up residence in the attic as they have done for the past 2 years...

They all want a table at the Greenforks diner, and who can resist their cute little faces. Let's hope they buy into the segregation, for the sake of the head chef. You don't want to have to build a booth for every species.

Wont the pigeons just eat the squirrel food?
Love the grasses by the way.

I've heard that birds can't taste hot peppers, but the squirrels hate them. If you lace the bird feed with cayenne, they ought to leave it alone. I've never tried it since I don't feed the birds. YMMV

I hope the squirrels wiill leave the bird feeders alone now.

Wish I could figure out some sort of decoy to keep them from digging and chewing on my garden!

Those pigeons are nervy. They should be happy keeping up with the seeds on the ground. At least then they'd be earning their keep doing a little weed prevention eating the seed before it sprouts.
