Why are you flowering now? It’s too early.

I tend to collect plants and then try to fit them into any available space. Occasionally I make an effort and put two plants together so that they compliment each other in some way.

So it was that I plantedĀ  Clematis ‘Sherriffii’ to flower from September to November (followed by decorative seed heads). It climbs over a Chimonanthus praecox (Wintersweet) but that’s ok because the Clematis will die back before the Wintersweet flowers on bare wood in late December or January. For many years they have behaved themselves. This year – Hmmmm.

Now the Wintersweet is flowering away and the flowers are invisible unless I fight my way under the Clematis. I look rather foolish standing there. I think our changing climate is producing some strange behaviour in the garden. I wonder if the same will happen next year?

Yep – it’s all gone mad in the garden this year.
Nice combo though

How ironic that you did a post about this, lol. I was going to do something similar this week. I’ve noticed the same odd behavior in my garden. Must be the climate. :)

Wow, really love your Clematis Sherriffii and would love to have one. Have been to England many times but haven“t had the opportunity to buy any flowers due to that we travel over Christmas and New Year.
Take care

Karen – There are still plants flowering in the garden that should have finished ages ago. Most confusing.

Racquel – Interesting that it’s happening in your part of the world too.

Isabelle – Thanks for visiting. I do recommend the clematis it’s so easy to grow.

I have out of seasonally confused flowering too this year, I plant winter flowering stuff to get me through December and January, and I have stuff that’s blowing my plans flowering in October. What gives?
