A cultural break and chocolate shopping

I’m off to Bruges (Belgium) tomorrow, back on Monday. Although we will have internet access I doubt if I’ll have time to do any blogging. It’s a beautiful city with lovely buildings and picturesque canals.

When we went last year  the buildings were decorated for Christmas.

We also experienced our first exhibition of ice sculptures. Chilly, very chilly. I found it was impossible to work my camera with gloves on.

You will see that they have very big snails in Belgium.

And it was much too cold to stop for a drink at the Ice Bar, though I was tempted!

Belgium is famous for beer, gin (jenever) and chocolate so I’m leaving some space in my luggage. See you next week.

Fabulous ice sculptures - is it an annual event? Been to Ghent for the Xmas Fair and to see the Ghent Altar piece, but its not as impressive as this.

Zoe - I think it is every year, from late November to January.
Waffles - I missed them off my list of desirable items. Yes they are good. I love that word (lol)

I’ve been to Bruges a couple times. Have some hot chocolate for me, after you climb the clock tower. ‘Course then, you’ll deserve a beer.

This all looks very beautiful. I have never seen ice sculptures.
But I have had lovely chocolates; yummy, you are tempting us.
Have a lovely time.

Enjoy yourself but be careful not too eat too many waffles, chocolate and friet met mayonaise. You have tried the friet from a frietkot, haven’t you?

Been to Bruges myself and it’s a great little city, very pretty with all those old buildings.

Oh what a magical city to spend a few days in. I was also there last year a week before Christmas and would love to return. Sadly I fell ill with a tummy bug and was unable to complete my shopping mission for chocolates so I will have to return. Well that’s my excuse. Hope that you enjoyed your trip.

Well the jenever should help to keep you warm.
Your canal shot and photo of the lit buildings are very pretty, while the ice sculptures are intriguing.
