Do you recognise this flower?
Do you have a pile of stuff on your desk? The “just put it there and I’ll deal with it later” pile. I’ve got two of them and while clearing one I found some flower seeds that I’d brought back from my Greek holiday two months ago. The little packet is marked with the following words of wisdom.
[[ ??? - white flower in garden - pics taken ]]
Do any of you recognise this plant with the white flowers and long seed pods? Click on the pictures for a closer view.
The flowers were a magnet for the Hummingbird Hawk Moth which does visit this country during the Spring and Summer but I’ve never seen one in my garden. Perhaps this flower might provide encouragement! Here it is visiting the mystery flower.

This looks like the annual vinca, a pretty color combo and love the moth!
Frances
Well, Frances has said it…it’s also known as the periwinkle. Your photos are beautiful…love that close-up the most!
What Kanak & Frances said is correct. I’ve grown this self-seeding annual in my garden for years. A very easy plant!
Thank you Frances, Kanak and Racquel - I’ve looked it up and it is indeed Catharanthus roseus, the annual Madagascar Periwinkle.
I could have spent hours looking for this information.
Isn’t blogging wonderful!
Cool moth photo! Never seen that one, maybe it doesn’t flit around in these parts.
Yep, its a vinca! One of the staples of my garden. It does especially well during long dry summers. Our summer was wet this year and it faded quickly. I bet it does well in pots - I’ll have to try it!
