Got to stop this humming, and a Squirrel update

I’ve found myself singing a Christmas carol yesterday and humming Christmassy tunes. It’s got to stop. It’s like I’m wishing the next two months of my life away, which didn’t matter when I was young but it does now.  Amazing how your body is doing one thing and your brain is off on a tangent - going its own sweet way regardless of whether  you might need its input at some critical point.

As usual my Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera), along with every shop I’ve been in recently, is welcoming the festive season well in advance. I know they flower before December but even so it’s another reminder I could do without.

No one should mention Christmas until at least December 1st.

Squirrel update: I had one squirrel in the garden two days ago and five squirrels yesterday. I’m guessing they are now using mobile phones to co-ordinate their attacks. I haven’t found that toolbox either. I’ve had to remove the damaged bird table which is now unusable. Things are not looking good (for me). Hmmm… must come up with another  plan….again!

Look what I’m up against. This one was checking out the garden in  the summer, preparing his winter campaign.

Squirrel: “Yes I can see all the bird feeders from here. I’ll be back in November. She won’t be happy, but I don’t care”

I don’t mind the squirrels taking the bird food, its when they dig up all my bulbs I get annoyed!

The Xmas Cactus looks lovely, I cant recall what I did with mine - put it outside somewhere to rest, but be blowed if I can recall were!

I have a recipe for Squirrel Pie ( taken from the BBC recently) if its of any interest?

hehe

Yes it has to stop!! There should be no mention of Christmas until December. That includes shops that display Christmas cards in August. I think your squirrels are related to mine. They can break into any bird feeder.

Totally agree - Christmas is for December only. Bah humbug!

Oh, I was dismayed to see the Xmas crap up at the drugstore before Halloween was even over yet. It’s earlier every year. Maybe you should hide your (admittedly lovely) Christmas cactus so it doesn’t remind you of the carols? :) My squirrel war continues as well. Good luck, they are organized and plentiful and so hyper/destructive at this time of year!

You must stop the humming - it is very bad for you - Humming Christmas tunes in November is very very bad.
The C. word is not allowed until 1st December - and even then must only be used with caution.

On the squirrel subject - 5 is rather a lot!
Why don’t you give them their own squirrel table?
:)

Sorry, I am choosing to bypass the christmas humming for now and instead (really) laughed out loud at the squirrel photo!

Look forward to the battle ahead - with the squirrel not the Christmas shopping ;-D

Have a good weekend :-D

Those little buggers are going to drive you crazy if you let them. They are clever little brutes. :) Too early for Christmas songs, I need to get through Thanksgiving first.

Women and turkeys against Christmas - especially if it starts in October! For your CC - Have you ever tried holding back watering for several weeks and then start to water again? This stress can bring on blooms so you can time the flowers somewhat. Glad to see that this squirrel was unarmed.

I love squirrels, and we can’t see squirrels in my concrete-city.
:(
I don’t know if the squirrels destroy the gardens but these animals are beautiful
:P

In past in Greece we never talk for Christmas before December 15th. But the last years you can see people start this think with Christmas from November.

I’ve been pretty happy to see christmas commercials hitting the TV. Just the sight of a lit up tree makes me very happy. I say enjoy it! It’ll be over before you know it.

The squirrels we have in Poland - they are not annoying - don’t dig bulbs etc. Sweet, red, small creatures :) made some photos of them in November and posted on my blog.

Thank you very much for help in identifying the mislabelled erica I have bought lately. Your suggestion is perfect! Yes, I think this is exactly Erica vagans you pointed.
Thank you again :)

Ahhh..what can we expect the squirrels are forging for food and hiding it…regardless of where it comes from…it’s the nocturnal racoons that casing the damage in my garden..I’ve had to discard 2 bird feeders as a result…now we just bring them indoors at night!

Squirrels too cute and too many of them! Once in anger I threw a bur oak acorn at one! Imagine my surprise when I hit his rump…Believe me…He lived to taunt another day! He was a brazen guy…came up to the door and pounded on the glass when the feeder was empty!

I totally agree about stores having holiday displays earlier and earlier, and I’m not wild about it. But humming an Xmas song is different–that’s OK by me. And my Xmas cactus also has buds–I welcome its bloom and don’t really associate it with the holidays. Much. My problem is, because everything starts so early, I walways think Xmas is so far off and then when it happens I feel I wasn’t ready or in the mood enough. I start listening to Xmas CDs in my car in mid December but go pretty much through mid January. I mean, Louis Armstrong (”Zat you , Santa Claus?”) is never out of season!
