Fast growing but short lived, I hope
This may not be for everybody. It is very fast growing, about 40 feet (12 mtrs) in two days. It is also short lived, surviving only 8 weeks before it disappears from sight. It may linger for longer but I prefer to see it depart as soon as possible. The grey colouring has a metallic sheen and growth is very upright and regular. Not one of the most attractive things to have in the garden – and some might say it is downright ugly! While above ground it does serve a useful purpose and for that reason I can put up with it.
Not easily obtainable at your average garden centre.
We are having the house roof re-tiled.

LOL, very good!
We had to have part the roof done last Winter, strong winds ripped the slates off. Thankfully it didnt take long, and the insurance company paid for most of the work. Phew!
I think Karen over at Artist’s Garden is a few tiles short of a roof too isn’t she?
Hope you both manage to stay snug!
Ha! I was trying to think of what it could be, some crazy Joe-pye weed or maybe a whale on the beach or ?? as I read. Scaffolding. You can pretend you live in an Italian monument while it’s up!
Very clever post today EG, lol. I was expecting some massive perennial. You got us good! :)
Well at least you don’t have to worry about watering it! Just don’t let it take root and spread all over the garden…
Very good -
Hope it is short lived.

LOL. Hope it stays dry while you’re having the roof re-tiled.
LOL. I think I wouldn’t want even that short lived metallic sheen in my garden… especially not this time of year. But maintenance is a must sometimes and can’t be avoided.
Thank you for being the first to pick my post this morning on blotanical.

Hi Easy, you got me too, I was trying to figure it out. LOL A very good thing, no ones wants leaking roofs!

One of the problems with this particular species does seem to be that it often takes much longer to come to fruit than one is told when purchasing. I have heard so many stories of people being told it will be eight weeks, and then it’s actually more like sixteen. I hope not in your case!
Funny!
I laughed my fool head off!
