Wild flowers I hope, and seedlings for sure

I’ve decided to plant some wild flowers on the small allotment bank which runs alongside the fence separating us from the public footpath. At the moment it contains Daffodils, some Comfrey, a wild Clematis and a couple of small bushes. It is meant to be a decorative border but has never quite achieved the splendour I have so often pictured in my mind.

So you have to imagine these…….

growing here. Pictures on seed packets can lead to disappointment but I am staying optimistic.

Back in the garden my greenhouse is filling up with various seedlings which are crowding out the tender plants. Most are vegetables but there are some herbs and flowers too. I am running out of room. Many seedlings need potting up – and then there will be even less room. Soon I will have to move some pots outside. I wish my greenhouse could expand on demand like a suitcase – or Dr Who’s Tardis.

I am going to have to gamble on the weather staying frost free. Fingers crossed!

Fingers are crossed for you! Good luck too with the wildflower plantings…I try to buy the best quality seed packets and then check to make sure there isn’t something that will take over in the mix! Still it’s worth it…the packets are so affordable! Your green house is fantastic…organized and full of seedlings! There never is enough storage room…in a garden or a house! gail

Fingers crossed for you! I can see that bank overflowing with wildflowers too.

Tina: I can but hope (lol)

How about one of those pop-up greenhouse cum cold frames?

Good luck with the wild flowers – that seed packet is most tempting for the guerrilla garden, but I know the soil’s too rich around here :(

VP: I’ve got them too! This wild flower mix is more suitable for normal soil I think.

I love wildflower seeds……if you have a good area, let them go, in a couple of years you will be amazed!!! Good luck with no more frost in your area!!

Darla: Thanks, I hope they do well.

This post did make me laugh as I have exactly the same problem – it is a real juggling act. I have two cold frames full as well. Another problem is that the modular trays I want to use to prick out into are already in use so I need those plants to bulk up so I can pot them up and reuse the modulr trays!!!!! Argh!

Helen: Yes I’ve got a cold frame and two plastic growbag covers/greenhouses. The latter are very unstable in the wind. Our drive must be a wind tunnel but there is nowhere else to put them. There is never enough space, shelves, trays or pots!

I hope that the wildflower display lives up to the picture and look forward to seeing a photo later this year. A magical expanding greenhouse would be most useful. I have one of the mini ones with three shelves. It is handy but it is not the sturdiest of creatures especially if very windy :)

Anna: I have mini plastic greenhouses too but every year at least one of them gets damaged by the wind :-(

I have a gardener friend who bought a couple of those plastic zippered pop up greenhouses. Not pretty, but he says they do the trick for a temporary home for things.

Megan: I have two of those, which I will be getting out soon. I agree, they are very useful.

Not a bit of wasted space – excellent greenhouse management! Just think what pretty little flower bouquets you’ll be able to collect.

Barbara: If you believe the picture on the packet!

I think that bank will look gorgeous covered in wildflowers. You have so many useful shelves in your greenhouse, I could do with some of those!

Libby: Unfortunately I never have enough shelves (lol)

I agree never enough space …
I am forever moving things from A – B at the moment – such a juggling act.
Looking forward to seeing your wildflowers in the summer
