HI EG, yes, a ladder, or maybe a piece of machinery called a cherry picker in the US. It is a tractor type thing with a long arm with an enclosed platform at the end to hold a human wanting to do some work up high. Sounds perfect for your clemmie shots.

Yes it can be so annoying when clematis climb where you don’t want them too. I managed to divert a couple on Monday before they had gone too high.

Joanne: I’ll keep a closer eye on it next year.

What a beauty – hard pruning after flowering does ‘bring them down to earth’ for a year or three, then it’s back up the ladder to appreciate the glories of clematis …

Blueworld: I pruned it to 2 feet in March so all this growth is from this year!

Be careful not to crane your neck EG ! I have not come across’ John Treasure’ before – a most pretty flower which looks good against those silver leaves. You must be delighted that the olive has had a longer life span than you envisaged !

That is one tall trellis, lol. Glad you got at least one bloom that was easy to see. :)

Tooo funny – although I am very impressed that a) you can grow clematis, they always die on me and b) the size of your olive tree, how wonderful.

Karen: I’ve lost more Clematis than I care to remember. Any that survive must be as tough as old boots. The Olive tree was not expected to survive outside so was planted far too close to the garage….it’s over 10 feet tall now!
