Blooming Friday: August, week 4 – Exotic Passion!
My Passion flower started to bloom yesterday. This particular variety is hardy here.
It is probably the most exotic flower in my garden.
Thanks to Katarina at Roses and Stuff for hosting Blooming Friday.

Hi!
I am also found of Passifloras, and summertimes you can breed them outdoors in the garden here in Sweden.
Nice pictures!
Happy weekend!/

Anna: They are beautiful flowers and are certainly worth growing if you can.
My mum grows these! The question is – can you eat the fruit? I have picked one and cut it but it had a much softer shell then varieties I’ve seen abroad in hot countries and I am uncertain…
CC: I think it is P. edulis that provides edible fruit though I’m not absolutely sure. P. caerulea may fruit but I don’t think they are very tasty.
I don’t think the passion flower will bloom in any Welsh gardens this year, so it is lovely to see yours.

Karen: Thanks. I think the Welsh wind and rain would have blown it off the trellis :-)
Wow – what a flower :)
Lovely pictures and they are one of my favourite flowers – I’m growing them at home, but after a bumper crop last year, they didn’t flower at all this year!
I have never seen this flower before… extremely exotic!! A four layered flower, and each layer is totally different…… fantastic.

It’s amazing what colours and shapes mother nature sometimes produces :)
Passion flowers are beautiful and nice, they adorn their place both indoors and outdoors.
Thanks for the comment to me.
Have a great weekend!
Such complex flowers. Gorgeous!
Very lovely flower and beutiful colour.. =) Have a nice weeken.. Moa
Hi. When I see your beautiful Passion Flower so I smile. What a beautiful flower viewing to day. I have tried twice to get the flower to survive. As you know, I have not succeeded. The flowers were small and the buds fell off. Have a nice weekend. /Margareta
They are so beautiful. I have them outdoors in summer-time and that looks special in this klimate. Winter-time they are resting on the window -sill.
Hmmm…. it’s just like I saw a passiflora like that somewhere else this Blooming Friday… ;-) Have a nice weekend.
I love that fruit and wish It could grow here! MB
Beautiful flower! Have a great weekend//Eva
For some reason, that reminds me of a fancy ice cream sundae.
Maybe I’m just hungry. ;-)
EG, that is most exotic! The second shot took my breath away!
We have not had so many flowers on our Passion flower this year but it was set back by the snow. They are such lovely flowers
Hi EG, that is certainly exotic and gorgeous! We have a native P. incarnata, similar but not as beautiful colorways. Ours can be invasive, but they are easily pulled. Why they want to grow in the gravel when there are perfectly good fences and trelliswork for them always makes one wonder. Silly passionvine. :-)
Frances
So the Passionflower is hardy at your place…lucky you! My vine got very ugly in our conservatory, so I cut it back heavily, and afteronly a couple of weeks it’s full of buds!
