Slightly interesting Iris becomes less interesting
I have had this clump of Iris pallida ‘Variegata’ for 20 years. It took 15 years to flower because it wasn’t happy till I moved it to another part of the garden.
When the flowers finally arrived they were interesting rather than attractive, mostly because they were small and did not stand out against the foliage. Still it had flowered so I felt satisfied. It was going to be one of those shy little flowers that I would have to crouch down to appreciate.
This year no flowers. Who knew there was a disease called Iris rust? Not me.
I can spray with a fungicide but I don’t generally use sprays. I think it is time to dig the Iris up. This is a sign.
A new planting opportunity!

Oh after all those years of patience on your behalf what a way to reward you :) As you say though a new planting opportunity so every cloud has a silver lining.
Yes, you’ve been patient enough. Some plants just can’t be happy in certain places, you save a lot of heartache accepting it and moving on to something that thrives.
How sad that after all these years your iris has succumbed to rust. Got to be the weather conditions there. Yes I can see a new planting opportunity.
Now for the fun part. What is it going to be? Exciting eh!
Sad about the rust but the blooms look unusual…pretty in their own way. Deciding what to bring in must be exciting!
Sad to part with plants, especially those we treasure most, and have not really seen the best in them… but life goes on.
Cheers

Oh, what a shame :( But on the plus side, you have a planting opportunity!
Oh no! I planted that iris two years ago, and it has not flowered for me. But I wasn’t worried till now.
I too am battling rust but on my German iris. I spray my roses every 10 days so I have just swooped around and sprayed the iris too. A general fungicide seems to work well. Too bad rust struck the I.pallida as I think the foliage is the prettiest part of the plant.
