Blooming Friday: September, week 1 – So Succulent

It was very windy yesterday and none of the flowers would stand still for my camera.

Eventually I found some plants that did not move in the wind! There are no flowers at present, but the colours and textures of these succulents are so attractive.

They are the easiest plants to grow as long as the soil is very gritty and well drained. I grow mine in pots or a raised bed and they stay outside all year round.

In May and June they flower. Here is a Sempervivum.

Well worth growing for interest all the year round.

I have quite a few succulents and the odd cactii. They are easy to look after. They are just the thing to grow here. I’m enjoying your blooming fridays.

The look a bit like cacti – are they from that family? They are really unusual and pretty – and I like the latin name! xxx

These are workhorses in my garden, since it gets pretty dry here.
Your hens are looking happy! Happy gardening!

Succulents come in so many ornamental shapes and shades. Great plants! I was given an Aeonium arboreum last summer, and I’m so pleased.

I’ve been thinking of creating a planter for these out of an old birdbath that leaks. That way I can appreciate their blooms & foliage at a nice level. Yours are gorgeous, I especially love ‘Extra’ and ‘Bloodtip’.

These are just wonderful plants…so versatile, since you leave them out all year round. I have forgotten that many years ago I had some of these hens with some chicks to go along with them…that’s what they are, right? I love all of yours–such variety. I’d forgotten that I could keep them in the garden all year. Mine were at another house that I lived in about 20 yrs. ago. I like Racquel’s idea to put them in an old leaky birdbath.
