Blooming Friday: September, week 2 – the memory of summer

There may be fewer flowers in the garden but a surprising number are still blooming. Even if there are only a few on each plant I am happy to see them. With a little effort I can imagine that summer is still with us (despite evidence to the contrary!).

Schizostylis coccinea

Schizostylis coccinea

This fragrant climbing shrub is a delight. The leaves are evergreen and very glossy. It flowers from mid to late summer. As its name suggests it strongly resembles Jasmine.

Trachelospermum jasminoides

This is another climber but a much stronger grower. It is cut back to 6ocm (2 feet) in late February but puts out an amazing amount of growth over the rest of the year.

Clematis 'Sherriffii'

My Ipomoea (Morning Glories) are still flowering. Surprisingly many of the dark purple ones self seed themselves in my garden. Other colours such as red and pale blue I sow myself  in early June. I find them extremely appealing.

This bulb is tender so lives in a pot. It has narrow, succulent leaves on woody stems.

Bulbine frutescens

Finally a little pot Chrysanthemum which was planted in the ground this year. It has done really well.

BTW: I will not be posting or commenting for the next two weeks. We are off on holiday to the Greek island of Ithaka. Hopefully there will be lots of sun and good food :-)

Have a good weekend.

Hi there, your photos are great, what lovely plants you have.
I hope the weather in Ithica is better than here as we have had days of cloud and rain. however it is starting to clear up so maybe the sun is going to shine again tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Do have a lovely time. I have not been to Ithica but spent a few holidays in Kefalonia.

Still lots and very special friends flowering in the garden. Love the morning glories too. Here in this warm climate they take over the tallest trees!
