The bathroom, the floor, the hole and the stupid cat
My new bathroom has been installed. Everything has gone fairly smoothly except for one little incident.
One day the builders were here for about eight hours doing various noisy things. Finally they fitted the bath panels to the side of the bath and boarded all the floor in preparation for the new floor covering.
This involved a lot of sawing and banging. Then they went home. I had a quick look to check everything was ok.
The Digger came home from work and went upstairs to look for himself.
“There’s a cat in the bathroom” he said. ……There was a short pause…… “I think it’s under the floor”.
Indeed it was. We could hear a faint, peeved “miaow” from under the bath.
Luckily the builder lives locally so we called him back. Part of the the floor boarding was ripped up and the bath panel dismantled. Various holes were uncovered. The builder went home (again).
Two hours later the cat emerged from one of the holes.
As I type this I am re-living the whole experience and grinding my teeth.
As for Georgie the cat – she says that after 8 hours under a noisy floor she needs a nap .

I’m sure that’s precisely what would happen if we had our bathroom done.
*note to self – never have the builders in*
I can’t figure how animals can be so dumb-ahem-so not smart. I mean honestly can’t Georgie figure out to stay out of the builder’s way so as to not get himself trapped and cost his owner much trouble? Georgie is one lucky cat you could hear him and rescue him. He looks to have forgotten all about the incident. Gotta love them.
Yikes! What an ordeal … but if only we could all learn from the kitties … who can relax under all duress. Clearly he or she never doubted your rescue. Wonderful photo! Carol
Cats! …. you gotta love them!
I know you are probably still incandescent – but it gave me a good chuckle – such a familiar story.

I’m having my bathroom redone at the moment, so I shall be checking the bath very thoroughly before the builders leave. My cat Pushkin is incredibly nosy and just the sort of twit that would get himself shut in somewhere. He once got locked into a house that was being done up just along the road from us and we had to ring up the builder to come and let him out. Perhaps he was a surveyor in another life…
Cats – at the back of the queue when brains were given out, but right at the front when they were doling out curiosity. It looks like Georgie is recovering nicely from her incarceration.
Cats are very investigative! I am glad you heard and rescued her.
It is annoying when something like that happens, what else can you do? Here too they have sometimes the biggest operations to save a cat from a tricky situation she has got herself into.
Georgie looks completely chilled out whilst I imagine that you were going up the wall :)
This is such a great story – and I don’t expect the cats riddled with guilt as a result – she looks pretty chilled out to me… what they put you through! Hope you’ll be able to enjoy your new bath now – essential to a gardner at this time of year :-) – take care Miranda
The cat looks completely unaffected by all this! Unlike the humans …
That’s a cat …cause a ruckus and then feign indifference. Don’t you love their moxie! Glad it all worked out! gail
We had something like that happen with one of our cats when we remodeled–he crawled under the house when the plumber left the access door open and refused to come back out. We tried everything–food, water, pleading. Finally, after a couple of days, I took a flashlight and shimmied through the cobwebs to rescue him.
Bless his little heart. Glad Georgie had the smarts to let you know where he was and you had a builder who was so accomodating.
Silly cat! They really do get themselves into the strangest places. ;)
oh blimey! Typical cat behaviour…they love getting into little places and exploring – often to their detriment…! And yours in would seem in this case too…. naughty puss. xxx
Funny though… xxx
what a lucky cat.. Can’t imagine if she cannot be heard!!!
thank goodness the cat is OK, cutely told story. I know someone who had a similar story but with a bad ending. Chihuahuah, tiny dog, went missing. Eventually discovered inside one of those couches that turn into beds. Kinda funny too, but very very black humour.
Oh, and Edgar Allan Poe story come to life! Lucky Georgie, I think that’s one of the 9 lives right there. Sorry for your trouble, but that gave me the biggest laugh of the day!
Cats and bathrooms – it must be a regular problem. When my plasterboards were going up in the bathroom the builder came back after lunch to see a cat staring out of the one “difficult” hole for which he had still to cut a piece of board. He put his hand in the hole and the cat, belonging, not to me, but a neighbour, retreated further into the eaves. It was ten days before we saw Carrots in the road and knew that it was safe to finish the wall.
