Blooming Friday: November, week 2 – Give me shelter

This is my greenhouse where I keep my tender plants over the winter.

Greenhouse

Greenhouse

It has an electric fire to keep the temperature above freezing and is lined with plastic bubble wrap for extra insulation. As you can see it is rather crowded.

I have two dwarf Chilli peppers still bearing fruit.

And many plants are still flowering happily.

Some of the Pelargoniums seem to flower for ever and ever.

This shrub is native to New Zealand. It is hardy down to -5C (23F) but I still keep it under cover during the winter. It is supposed to flower in March but the extra warmth has given it an early start.

Sophora microphylla ' Dragon's Gold'

Sophora molloyi ' Dragon's Gold'

Finally some young Agaves grown from offsets off my larger plants.

They are all bedded down for the winter. All warm and cosy.

Oh…it is rather a sweet and cosy scene…like all the plants got together and huddled in the greenhouse for warmth…I hope they are okay and survive – and I hope that heater doesn’t eat up too much electricity – don’t want you to have a high electric bill…still, it is your passion so I can totally see why you do it. xxx

What a wonderful greenhouse you have to all your flowers, who needs a little protection during the wintertime. I wish I had the same for my pelargones and other flowers but I have to throw them away instead. That hurts a little bit…
Your blog is lovely!
I like your pelargoniums “Shannon” and “Sidoides”. They look like small stars and the colors is beautiful.
Thank you for your nice comment in my blog. I appreciate it so much!
Have a nice weekend!

Crowded, but cozy it seems..! I’ve tried to have Agave outdoors for the entire winter and it worked fine (that year), but I usually take them inside the greenhouse too.

Fabulous pictures – makes you wish that you were one of the plants – chatting away with your other plant friends all winter in the cosy greenhouse. The Sophora is stunning!

Oh, your greenhouse! So cool that you have all those warm-climate plants out there all winter, staying happy so you can enjoy them year-round. That maroon pelargonium is astonishing.

Oooooh! I want a greenhouse. I do love a nice structure, and yours looks very neat and inviting. What a nice place to spend a winter day.

I especially like the bubble wrap–a great idea.

Can you find some room for me in there ? It looks oh so cosy – just give me some fleece and I will hibernate for the winter !

What a lovely collection of blooms all in a neat community… a room of their own. Love the Dragons gold! The choreography of flowers is so amazing… inspirational! Makes me want to stretch and dance. Very enjoyable post. Carol
