Blooming Friday: December, week 1 – The Operatic Orchid
Welcome to Blooming Friday, the first one in December. Today we are staying indoors.
I could not resist buying this Orchid at 50% off the original price. It is supposed to be a blue Phalaenopsis…..!!
Breeders are always trying to introduce blue into Phalaenopsis orchids and this is one of their attempts. Of course she is more pale purple than blue but still very pretty. It is a shade I have not seen before but it misses blue by quite a wide margin .
The flowers are small but I was told ‘Aida’ would flower continuously from the tip of the stem. In general Phalaenopsis stop flowering once the stem has its quota of open blooms. At some point in time it has to stop producing new flowers so it will be interesting to see how long this takes!
Thanks to Katarina at Roses and Stuff for hosting Blooming Friday.

So pretty! I love orchids…Have you ever been to Thailand to see the orchid farms they have there?! xxx
CC: No I haven’t been to Thailand – the thought of thousands of Orchids is mind boggling!. I would love to see them growing in the wild, that would be an experience!
The colour is beautiful! I’d be delighted if I had something blooming like that! I’m waiting for the flower exhibits. should be soon!
Have a great day!
Beautiful, I’m so grateful for these winter flowering plants. What would we do without them?
Happy weekend/ Tyra
I love the color! And it would bloom until it reaches the maximum number of flowers it can give? That’s GREAT! I hope they would be in full bloom in time for the holiday season
Hi EG, the breeder’s work certainly is showing in this flower! What a beauty and the form is quite different from straight Phals. Lots of other genetic material in there, a very good thing! There are promising buds too, what a wonderful way to have color during the winter months. We depend on the orchids for that here as well.

Beautiful shot! I love the soft light in the picture! Thanks for visiting my blog!
Is it true that there are very few flowers in nature that actually qualify as truly blue? Seems like it to me, anyway. I remember seeing a production of ‘Aida’ as a kid – quite something with all the real horses on stage!
Very nice flowers, but yes it does miss been blue by a long shot. It is still lovely though and sure to give you some weeks of pleasure.Let us know how long it lasts.
Hi!
It’s not easy to resist a lovely orchid with a good price…
Though it is not truely blue it has a lovely colour, I think.
I hope you had a nice weekend, and that you will have a nice week!/

I do love those delicate orchids. Once I went bushwalking with a friend who was passionate and knowledgable about orchids. We ended not walking far, but finding tiny gems in the wild. My efforts at tending tame orchids has not been successful. Good luck with this one Easy.
Orchids are wonderful any time of the year! Wonderful colour!!
Now that’s pretty and would be hard to resist even at full price. Wonder how long she will flower for. You will have to report back.
Such a lovely, delicate colour. Not blue, but better, it’s several shades of mauve and purple.
