Seeds and more seeds

I lift out the new seed catalogues for 2010. I take a look at  the seeds we already have.

Do we really need any more?

Seed catalogues and Seed packets

Probably not – but we will be getting some anyway. The temptation is too strong to resist.

I know the feeling but how could you resist ? :)

Those colorful cheery seed packets… like candy… at this time of year. If kept cool the seeds will last so not a wasteful indulgence… and they are so much fun to play with … to look through and imagine. ;-)

And I know that feeling only to well, You can’t help but write a list of the ones you would like and before you know it they are ordered. These glossy seed catalogues, too much temptation.

Yep same here, but probably even worse because I didn’t sort out my seed tin before succumbing to temptation ;)

Yes that’s a job I need to do soon I think I have most of the flowering seeds I will want but we usualy start with fresh vegetable seeds rather than saved ones.

I am determined only to get the ones we actually need this year. Apart from freebies, obviously. So far I have ten packets of free seeds (which I won in a competition), and another ten on the way (from GW magazine – paying postage only – that doesn’t count, does it?) ;)

A late happy new year!

What we do is have a seed swap with our allotment neighbours, so you get some ‘new’ (to you) seeds and give away some of your last year’s leftovers, then we decide if there rae any packets of new seeds we want to buy that we can split between us. It doesn’t exactly save money, but it’s a lot of fun.

A seed swap is a great idea — although it never stops me from giving in to the temptation to buy a few more seeds that are New! Exciting! Fool-proof! Ah, yes. Winter is the season of garden dreams.

Yes, they’re always very tempting, aren’t they? It’s such an exciting time of year!

I know exactly how you feel. I can’t resist seeds, either. But they are a not-too-expensive luxury in this house. My husband just shook his head at me today as he handed me another padded envelope from the mailbox. :)

:)
I decided that I needed (some) new veg seeds this year too … just to try one or two different varieties you know.
