Blooming Friday: February, week 1 – more new blooms

A few more flowers have appeared this Blooming Friday.

First, two very fragrant shrubs that I would always have in my garden.

Daphne bholua 'Jacqueline Postill'

Sarcococca confusa

Then there is my very first Crocus….

Crocus chrysanthus 'E A Bowles'

…. and Primula for this year.

Primula

And last of all one of my winter bedding Violas. It looks like one of those ragged Butterflies that emerge in Spring after a long hibernation!

Viola

Daphne and Sweetbox are my two most wanted for the winter garden. I am envious! :)

Hi i am new here, came in via BF of Katarina. Lovely photos. That first one looks like having spiral stem as in the Costus sp or spiral ginger. I am from the tropics and not accustomed with the temperate plants like yours, but Viola is my favorite. I’ve only seen them in Sweden and Turkey. I pity it in your garden, never mind the food chain was met. For the more summer colors unlike your winters please visit my site.

I bet your pleased to see some new life sprouting from your garden now. I think you must be sick off all the horrid weather you have been having. Lovely to see your photo’s

So you have spring! I really envy you. Here is the worst winter in decades. Your pictures give me some hope back. Have a nice week end!

So spring still exists? I was just wondering… Nice pictures.

Very pretty blooms and unlike the ones we see here. I’m only familiar with the viola. I bought a primula last year and had to keep looking for shady areas. That yellow of the crocus is heart-warming.

ah, it is so nice to see these appearing – makes you feel hopeful and know that better, warmer times are on their way! They should call these ‘hopeful flowers’…xxx

Although my yellow crocusses are an earlier blooming species than your C. crysanthus, they show less color yet. My primula’s are always rather late too…

I wish I could smell the scent of your first two photos!

Are you aware of the Garden Bloggers get together at this year’s Malvern Spring Show? Interested?

It’s nice to be reminded there is hope. Lovely springflowers you are showing. Crocus in my garden will have to wait for another 2-3 month. Like the rest of us Scandinavians here, we have plenty of snow..

How come you’ve got crocusses in flower when, round here, the few that have come up so far are just half inch stumps? It’s amazing how climate varies round such a small country.

I like the viola. I thinks it looks like a butterfly. Or maybe a beautiful lady in masquerade?
