Body and Mind – and the Weather

Yesterday I was out in the garden checking for signs of spring flowers.  There were flowers or buds on Hellebores, Snowdrops (Galanthus), Sarcoccoca, Cyclamen and Quince. The leaves of Crocus and Narcissi were showing too. Although it was cold the ground was no longer frozen and I walked down to the pond wondering when I would see the first frogspawn of 2010. I was accompanied by two close friends.

Body was well wrapped up but would have preferred to be indoors reading a book. Mind was rejoicing at the sight of said flowers and planning a few essential gardening jobs now that the weather was improving. Mind never feels the cold which gets  Body very irritated.

~~~~~~~~24 hours pass~~~~~~~~~
This morning I went out to feed the birds. Mind was in turmoil and Body was deciding which book to read and wondering  where she had left her furry slippers.
A scattering of snow
Pretty but not wanted!
No chance of frogspawn at the moment
All gardening plans are put on hold.
It seems to me that yesterday, the weather was milder on the other side of the North Sea!
In the weekend, we were already covered with a blanket of snow. (We do have snow showers today, but temperature is above 0°, so it’s melting slowly.)
lol – you really are living in the wrong country for Body aren’t you. I am afraid we had a glorious day here today so much weeding got done.
I enjoy looking at your winter garden pictures.
Oh dear, my mind and body would be in the same pickle! I voted no on snow this winter, got my wish so far but who knows. Hope it thaws soon and you get your froggy friends back.
Yeah, body and mind used to one inseparable entity and over the years, the two go separate ways…. hmmm. The weather over here is bright sunny day with regular rainfall late evening… ~bangchik
I love your sense of humour. And can completely relate. Although it’s frigid here, we’re also buried in snow so body and mind both get to stay inside, drink tea or cocoa, and plan for the day when spring finds us. Which will be in about mid-May.
Thanks also for coming by and leaving a thoughtful comment in the discourse about blog encouragement. You’re so right about comments reciprocating comments, at least many times that’s the case. Ironically, I put out a discussion and get snowed under with work, but I’m working on a couple of followup posts.
All I can think of is “We interrupt the regularly scheduled programming (Spring) for a bit of winter. Stay tuned for more buds and flowers after this brief snow storm…” I feel the same way with the 6 inches of snow we got. But it’s okay. I can picture all the flowers safe and sound under their blanket of white, just like yours.
Yes Body wants to stay in cuddled up and warm whereas, Mind is impatient and wants excitement. I think Body should win this round. You really should try to keep Mind under a bit more control, for a few more week yet anyway.
Brilliant EG! Body and Mind are often opposite here too. And you have stated it perfectly, the snow is pretty but not welcome. We are used to it melting right away, and we are on day five of the same stuff still on the north facing slope. The sun does not hit and melt it like it should with above freezing temps. Even the rain is not piercing the tough crust of ice. Arghh. I believe Mind and Body have come together for that utterance.
Hey there… funny how Body and Mind differ a lot…isn’t it? Did you find some frog spawn? Let us know when you do… xxx
I think that we had the same sprinkle – I told myself it was a case over mind over matter but it does not work like that does it :)
Body and mind can continue to duke it out a few more days, I guess. I’m having the same issue, only for me it’s sickness preventing me from getting outside and planting on my careful schedule! Argh… :(
Yes it looks dreadful still. I cant imagine if i am living with these kind of winters, especially because i suddenly have an allergy for the sudden changes in temperature. From that picture of your yard, how many days more before you can start gardening again? thanks…Andrea
