Froggy comes a calling!
On March 19th I noticed the first frogspawn in the pond.
There were two clumps of it. I hope they hatch out because last year the eggs seemed to dissolve away to nothing and I never saw a single tadpole.
The second clump was being watched over. Could the female be still laying? I am not much of an expert on the life cycle of a frog
Please let some hatch out. Over the last few years the number of tadpoles that actually turn into baby frogs has fallen dramatically. I don’t know why. Fingers crossed for these ones.

Huh… the mother’s eye is so watchful!! ~bangchik
I’m not much of an authority on herps in the UK, but. I think you have toads there not frogs. The egg masses do look to be frog eggs, toads usually lay strings of eggs. Toads only hang out in water to breed you know. Likely you’ll find more eggs in a few days.
Lovely frog spawn. There are two frogs so hopefully they have been fertilised. I think that they come back to where they hatched out to spawn. So maybe these one came from your pond in the first place. Good luck and keep us posted on its progress.
Fingers crossed for your tadpoles. These are something I so love to see. Sometimes I think some years are better than others for frogs and toads. The year 2008 saw us inundated with frogs but last year we didn’t see so many. I do love the eggs in your pond. It will be so exciting watching for them.
How fun! I do hope you have lots and lots of tadpoles. The first year we had our pond at our last house, we had so many, the pond was choked with them! I hope you’ll post their progress!
Fingers crossed for lots of little froglets :D
I like the image with the frogs! It´s funny!
I have my fingers crossed too! Frogs are great … they eat mosquitoes for one thing!! Good luck! ;>)
Oh, how much fun! Nature never fails to be wonderful! I am so happy spring is here and I hope it stays that way – you never know in this country!
Have a good week.
Love,
Ingrid
I want all the eggs to hatch into babies too.
How exciting! I hope there will be some tadpoles and frogs for your pond this year!
I do hope that you will have a myriad of baby froggies this year EG a croaking from the depths of that pond.
