In with the new fence out with the old
We have had a new garden fence installed. I find a new fence very satisfying, even if ours does look very new at the moment. I am sure it will look very weathered by next year.
This gave me an opportunity to remove the garden arbour and paint the roof. The cat walks by in disgust – she refuses to sit there unless the cushions are in place.
By the time the seat was back in place the Daphne nearby was flowering.
The flowers are extremely fragrant and a beautiful colour. Daphnes are one of my favourite shrubs and would feature in my top ten list of “Shrubs that are a must for the garden”.

The new fence is very handsome and should weather beautifully. Let’s hope you get those cushions out quickly – poor kitty having to suffer such a cruel fate. Just shudder to think of the dear soul having to sit on those pavers….or perhaps even the garden soil.
Your arbour makes a nice retreat, with the roof and lattice. Plus, the perfumed air would be sweet around now. The solid fence looks like it gives a lot of privacy.
A beautiful fence! It looks like you’re using concrete posts? I’ll never understand why we don’t seem to use those here. They just make sense. The one part below the soil that you know is going to rot, should be rot-resistant! Oh well, maybe someday that will catch on here. I love your little arbor seat, even without cushions, I’d be happy to sit there.
New fences do look so smart – your daphne is looking very beautiful – yet again I wish for “smellyvision”.
Thanks for your recent comments – I don’t know why but they always go into the spam box – after a couple of years of them being fine – so sorry, but I do always check my spam for you now

oh a new fence………….. ours is leaning into the neighbours garden just now! and the thought of a new one going up is daunting as I hope it won’t damage my plants. How I wish we had used concrete posts from the begining – but its going to be wood again for the posts.
Daphnes are beautiful and have such a wonderful scent – I don’t think that one could cope in my very cold garden ( NE Scotland) very well – is it very hardy? I lost so many plants this year.
Have a lovely weekend

Most envious of the fence having a completely fenceless garden I hanker after one. I imagine that the cat felt most aggrieved – nothing like having your kipping routine disrupted. The scent from the daphne must permeate her dreams – what a fortunate creature.
Aragon sits on the armrest and glares at the butler, sorry Ungardener, until madam’s cushion is served.
It’s a great feeling when a new fence goes up, particularly since if you are in the backyard a lot (like me) you tend to spend a lot of time looking at it.
It’s nice to see it get gradually weathered over time. :)
