The perfect garden

The garden has taken on a life of its own despite me spending very little time doing any actual work in it. Flowers are everywhere.

Wisteria florabunda, Cercis siliquastrum and Eucalyptus parviflora

It seems I have to do very little. Does a garden even need a gardener if results are as good as this?

Enkianthus perulatus

Some plant pairings even happen by accident when a wild flower drops into the garden. I could not have done better myself.

Forget-Me Not (Myosotis sylvatica) and Ophiopogon planiscarpus 'Nigrescens'

I have even discovered that Tulips can be very attractive – even tall ones. I have only grown small species ones up to now. Gardening prejudices are often hard to overcome and can last years!

Tulipa 'Andre Rieu'

Perhaps the garden does not need me at all? I get out the garden chairs and sit down. What is that over there? Oh no…my peace is destroyed…the garden is tormenting me. I go and get a trowel and a fork while the garden gives a satisfied laugh. It knows how to keep a gardener on her toes.

You had me immersed in the fantasy of the no maintenance garden, until the last shot.

So I think the answer is yes…a garden does indeed need a gardener. Although I must say, the dandelion seed head is very pretty.

Now I’m not sure if this is right but this saying goes something like this. One years seeds make seven years weeds. So get rid of that dandelion before it wrecks havoc in you garden.

Sometimes the best combinations are gifts! I do like dandelion flowers~not so much how the seedheads looks after they release all those seeds…gail

Sometimes from a distance everything looks great and then you sit down and see the weeds, lol. :) Yep the garden needs us, but maybe not as much as we need it.

I like the Forget-Me Not flowers, lovely blue . Spring is beautiful everywhere I love the wildflowers in Greece. But after that summer coming and without a gardener in garden you can see only yellow dry weeds :P

(P.S. I change url/email/username, you can change the CityGarden in your blogroll)

I love this post. My own philosophy of gardening is about finding the right balance between letting the garden do its own thing and keeping it from being absorbed back into the wild (which can happen very quickly in my rural edge-of-the-forest environment!).

Ha, EG, I was hoping you were able to enjoy/ignore the weeds, for that is the only way to relax in a gardenerless garden! We have been trying to get to that level of thought for years, chipping away at prejudice against certain plants, like the dandy lions which are actually beautiful. It turns out that not being able to walk the paths due to knee high and higher growth in the gravel that spurs us to action. It’s always something, isn’t it? :-)

I’m ruthless with forget-me-nots but if the odd one gets through it usually looks delightful. You’ve even made the dandelion clock look stunning!

I’d love to revel in that too, particularly if my garden looked as lovely as yours!:) The last shot is amazing!
