Blooming Friday – Old fashioned

Now that I have got my internet connection working I can once again produce a post for Blooming Friday.

Primula auricula is a flower that I always think of as old fashioned. They came to this country from Europe  in the 16th Century.  There have been flower shows for Auriculas since the 17th Century and The National Auricula Society was founded in 1872-73. A craze swept the country and they became very popular, grown by all levels of society, rich or poor.

When I was a child this flower was grown in all the local  gardens. They have now fallen out of favour but I rather admire their bright colours and their  refusal to unbend and look more casual.

I will finish with an old fashioned method of transport I saw in Belgium.

Excellent! How lovely to see an old-fashion flower show too. I love the species primula the best. Unfortunately none would survive my wild gardens. Love the old-fashion way of getting around . . . once even took driving lessons . . . I will always regret (yes, regret) never having my own horse and buggy. I so enjoyed this post Greenforks! Enjoy the weekend! Carol

Primula auricula is a cute little flower, I have a small one but would like to have more. Horse transport was very nice but I’m glad I can drive my car today instead of taking up horse-o-trailer to the job .. smiles. In early summer growing lupins in rainbow colors at the roadside and it is so nice, like them a lot. Have a nice weekend / Moa

I´d love to have some more auriculas. Lupins are like weed, destroying the habitat for alot of plants in the countryside here.

I have never liked Primula auricula, they just don’t do it for me. However I do like lupins, but the snails love them too much!!!

I like Lupins too – they are great around mid summer.
